WEPG's Response Regarding Submission of Application by WP2

The Wells Environmental Protection Group (WEPG) welcome the long-awaited submission of WP2’s application to Somerset County Council in respect of the proposed ‘pyrolysis incinerator’ at Haybridge, Wells. This will allow the local residents of Wells, associated environmental experts and other interested parties the opportunity to examine the case for such a facility and scrutinise the scientific basis of the proposals. Perhaps now that the ‘cards are on the table’, with accurate written statements that can be tested, it will be possible to cut through the conjecture and engage in the informed debate that has long been called for over this issue.

Through public information evenings, hearsay and the local media, many of us have heard what WP2 have to offer at the proposed Haybridge facility. Since public consultation is mandatory for an application of this nature, the opportunity for everyone to voice their opinions is now upon us.

Do not believe that individual opinions do not count!

The recent success of proactive residents of WHAM (Wells Householders Against the Mast), and their elected representatives, against the erection of a mobile phone mast in the Bath Road area, highlights our collective power to determine planning developments and quality of life issues in our neighbourhoods. WEPG and its associated experts will consider the application in detail once it is submitted to Somerset CC and report our findings at public information events to be held locally in the coming months. Should we find the application to be lacking in respect of any planning, environmental, perceived health or amenity issues, we will outline the necessary steps to oppose this proposal through these public meetings, the media, leaflet drops and via our website (www.wepg.org.uk).

In the meantime, should you wish to assist us in reviewing this application, or to discover more about our concerns to date, please visit the website or contact us at:

We would welcome your opinion.
